About Us

Meet Jewel Williams, MEd

A former teacher with more than 30 years experience in the North Carolina public school system, Jewel Williams has been Director of the Irlen Clinic of Fort Collins since 2004. She earned a Masters degree in early childhood education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has 16 post masters hours in curriculum and instruction. She has planned and implemented staff development programs for intergenerational literacy that includes adult basic education, early childhood education, and parent support. In North Carolina she directed the Even Start Family Literacy Program, and implemented active parent involvement programs including MOTHEREAD, which uses children’s books to teach parents to read to their children. In Colorado she has worked in literacy programs for the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado State University.

In 1996 she was personally trained by Helen Irlen to be a certified Irlen screener. After advanced training in Irlen methodology, she became a diagnostician in 2000. Both as a screener and a diagnostician, Jewel has helped countless people of all ages overcome reading difficulties and become successful in their work and academic environments.
